Decided to put a handle on and old quarter inch mortice chisel, used a bit of elm for the handle. The back of the blade was the longest part, bent like a banana so it took a long time to get flat, should work OK now tho'

I made the little knife years ago but the corner of the blade got chipped so I've reground it and honed it again. I read somewhere that an old cut-throat razor has the finest steel you're likely to find anywhere, this is what the blade of the little knife is made from....certainly takes and edge :shock: Handle is a lump of ash with the blade epoxied into it. Going to use it to clean out the corners of dovetail sockets - Rob

Good stuff - I would never have thought of using elm.

I reckon mortise chisels are useful for all sorts of bench work, not just mortises. Sometimes that deep blade just makes it easier to register on the work and line up with other components, for instance.
