I've managed to do some research and hydrolic oil at a certain viscose with slipway properties is probably the best, as it contains no additives and keeps the viscose stated unlike engine oil that changes viscose the hotter and colder it is. I'm going to try some castrol magna bd68 slide way oil and if it is too thick I will try q8 Haydon iso 32 or varlube 32s iso32 slide way oil. I'll let you know which is better with trials.

I've got a litre of Shell Tellus T32 hydraulic oil, if anyone wants it. As stated by Gaci, the viscosity of hydraulic oils remains much the same in use, rather than changing as do the multigrade automotive oils - which was why I got the Tellus for my now long gone CL3.
Having said that, most hydraulic oils of this type do have loads of additives to maintain wear prioperties, reduce oxidation etc

I agree Duncan, there are a lot of different oaks out there and some are almost additive free, a few I named.

Afternoon all

RP say that if their (very expensive ) oil is not available, use straight 30 engine oil in their CL3 bearings.

Briggs and Stratton do one for their mower engines if you look on Amazon, but any motor factor should be able to supply SAE 30.

Cheers
