I use a Makita at work for general maintenance and it has served well for the last 3 or so years. I also have another Makita which is a cheaper model which I use at home and have had for just over a year, used this pretty extensively whilst working on my house so it's certainly been put through its paces! Really happy with both.

I was recently in the market for an impact driver but was on quite a tight budget so I thought I would give the Ryobi one+ range a go. Really impressed with the impact driver although would like to upgrade the battery to one of the larger capacity one at some point. Funnily enough, the day after I got the impact driver I saw a Ryobi combi drill for sale second hand (although the it was brand new and still had the tag on it) but without a battery. Paid £20 for it which was a steal as I can use the battery I already have. Used this recently along with the impact driver whilst building my workbench and have really liked both! :D

There is a Festool promo around at the moment, if you have one of their vouchers and buy a bare kit, i.e. cordless tool without battery they will supply a 5.2Ah battery for free.

Two slight issues, first you need to get your hands on a voucher and most of their bare kit doesn't include the charger so unless you are already using that platform, that's another cost.

I replaced my cordless kit last year and boiled it down to three main players; Fein, Panasonic and Festool. I ultimately went with Fein and now kinda wish I'd gone one of the other two. I'm fairly Festooled up to the eyeballs but could never justify the cost of their drills (other than the CXS which is a no brainer) however their prices seem to be coming down lately.

If I remember correctly, I think FFX are doing deals on Panasonic at the moment and they rate quite highly, particularly the batteries.
