I am after a corded drill to use with my Kreg jig and I have a cheapy Bosch one that still works fine after about 12 years but its not braked in any way and this makes it difficult to move from hole to hole quickly ie putting spinning drill into metal lined hole equals dull bit. My cordless drills don't really run fast enough but they do have braked chucks.

Do corded drills come unbraked as standard? Is there a braked one ie one that stops almost instantanously after releasing the trigger?

Cheers

Tim

May be worth looking at the Metabos, some of there corded drills have torque settings for driving screws so may well have a braking circuit as well.

When I use my kreg jigs, my drill is an old black & decker cream colour 3/8 chuck about 25 years old.

I have not long made some rustic bins that required approx 600 holes, if you time it just right and release the trigger before the drill bottoms out, the drill will be stopped before you try to remove it from the jig. :D :D

Just a matter of timing.

If I remember correctly :) Kreg recommend the use of a mains power drill to drill the holes as they spin much faster than cordless resulting in a much cleaner cut hole, and then a cordless with torque settings to drive the screw home.

Do you have an air line?

I have found a cheap air drill from Machine Mart to be the perfect tool for use with my pocket hole jig. It has plenty of power and stops immediately.

At under £20.00 you can leave the drill bit in permanantly.
