Hi
Wonder if any can help ...............and maybe make sense of what i'll try and explain

Looking at building a computer desk, that parts fine i would like to make a sliding tray or draw for the keyboard.
Now the question, is it possible to get a sliding shelf, draw ( sorry not sure what it's called) that also works a flap at the front so it slides up when you pull the shelf out.
I would like it to look like a proper draw when it's shut and i know i could make something that i could lift up myself but like the idea of just being able to pull the drawer out and it being done in one movement.

Hope that makes sense :?

Thanks for any help

Gosh, it's not often I get a chance to contribute in this part of the forum :) .

I made a computer desk out of MDF a few years ago using normal drawer slides and a hinged frontispiece which drops down when the tray is pulled out, but lifts up to close when it is slid back in.

The desk itself overhangs slightly so the tray frontispiece fits very snugly underneath it when it is closed, nicely trapped.

Thanks Gill

That was very quick
As always it seems when asking for help or guidance here good advice from friendly people.
Is it a one pice hinge type thing or just added to the front Gill ?

Thanks for you advice

I know that B&Q sell drawer slides specifically for keyboard drawers. They look pretty much like regular double extension slides.

Hi Martin

I used two butt hinges, one at each end of the tray. Each hinge is fastened with six brass screws.

It might not be clear from the photograph, but the frontispiece has a lip which is oversized at the bottom. This means that when it is lowered, the lip rests underneath the sliding tray. I designed it like that to minimise the stress on the hinges.
