It would appear that only 20 people have voted in the competition.

Come on people, the entrants and the mods have gone to some considerable lengths to make this a more interesting place to learn and socialise, if you do that then you should vote.
After all one day it may be you :)

Dom

And it would be great to have a few more comments about why you like the ones that you do - Dom and I are feeling a bit exposed

Cheers

Hi, i'm a bit confused on how to vote, give us a clue :? .

Martin

I've been a bit confused :? as well over the last couple of days as well, the total votes cast don't seem to have changed much over the last 72hrs....with all the effort from all parties that have gone into this I would have expected far more forum members to have cast their vote by now - Rob

Me too, You can find it by going to the jump to forum box at the bottom right in the drop down box it's the very bottom option to get the competition forum.

I thought there was a panel of judges?

50% of votes to the judges, 50% to the members. Chris has explained it all. Look at the Competition thread at the bottom of the Forum index.

Cheers

#  It's off the bottom of the screen - I never even knew it was there!
Maybe I'm not the only one...

Sorry to bump this one up to the top again, but voting appears to have slowed down a bit over the last 48hrs - Rob

Well, the whole ideas is great.

However I'm unclear on what I'm actually voting on? Surely we should be voting on the project as a whole (once completed) rather than the initial design?

I could design a rather complex piece of furniture, but that doesn't mean I could acutally execute it well?

Billy, the competition is in two parts. Part 1 is design only. Entrants were allowed to design anything they wanted wether it be beyond thier abilities to make it or not. Read the Sticky at the top of the General Woodworking forum. You are supposed to vote for the design which appeals to you most.

Finally had time to sit and consider. Have voted and posted comments in all categories.

One comment about the competition itself - I wonder whether in future, entrants should not be allowed to post wip pictures until judging the design stage has been completed. I did find it a little hard in some cases to put pictures of the actual piece out of my mind and concentrate on the submitted design instead.

Overall I'm very impressed, particularly with the beginners section. Had I been able to enter I would have been well out of my depth, I'm sure!

I'm afraid i have to agree.
I finished my project a few weeks back, entering parts 1&2,and have sent my wip to Chris to be put on when that part of the comp is open.
After all the design part is also to design something that is beyond your building skills.
But i have also been confused all the way along so far as to what is happening :? but that's me :D

I think a lot of people are confused. My understanding is that there is no link between parts 1 & 2 so there is no need for WIP of part 2 pieces to have any effect on peoples views on part 1 entries. The two are not necessarily related. Given that that is the case I find it hard to see what the judging criteria can be for part 1. It can only be the production of a design (by which I mean drawings) that could be delivered to another maker for production which would discount several part 1 entries (my own included) at a stroke. In my own case My part 1 entry and my part 2 WIP are for different although similar pieces. One couldn't look at the pics and take anything from them vis a vis part 1.

Part 2
Is about both design and making. In this part of the competition, members will make the designs judged best in Part 1, or their own interpretation of them, or something else entirely, as long as it fits the design brief. Judging as before will be by forum members for "liking" and by the panel of experience woodworkers for practicality and quality of execution.

I thought if you entered both parts 1&2 you have to build what you've designed in part 1 :? or as the rules say fits the design brief.
Paul.J.....still :?

Ah yes but here

Chris also says
"Don't forget Parts 1 and 2 do not necessarily have to be the same project - up to you. "

If I have misinterpreted that statement or it has been superseded by something else then I will have to withdraw one of my competition entries or start my part 2 entry again - I would probably withdraw my part 1. (I may in fact make the part1 design into a second part 2 entry but that isn't certain at this point in time.

Cheers Mike
