I always wondered how to go about laminating in a home workshop. It's definately given me some ideas for part of my media center cabinet I am still in the process of planning.
One thing I noticed in your pics John is your "Failure Disposal Equipment" in the background... :wink:

One thing I would be very interested to hear how you get on with is Gluefilm. I have only ever done one piece of veneering and I used Gluefilm for that (didn't know how to do "proper" veneering ). I bought it from the Art Veneer Co. Like you, I used a domestic iron. It was quite successful but hardly enough to constitute an extensive test.
That was back in the 1970s. I first became aware of Gluefilm from an article by W L Rowson in Woodworker magazine of February 1973. He made an absolutely stunning gate leg table with bow front from walnut and he used Gluefilm for some of the veneering. The table was so nice that it's the one woodworking magazine that I've never thrown out. Unfortunately his article was spread over two issues of the magazine and I can't find the second issue - sod's law because that's the issue where he described how he made the top and did all the veneering.

John, looks good so far. Laminating seems to be popular for curves - might have to give it a go :idea:

Managed to make some more progress but it will be challenge to get it finished by by Next Friday.
This is one of the drawers, sliding dovetails at the front and simple dado's at the back. The sides are maple (I think) and the back mahogany, all from the offcut bin.
It was at this stage that I realised that there was no groove in the drawer fronts for the bottom Doh!! (homer) After a bit of head scratching and cursing I decided to rout a 2mm deep groove in some 3mm MDF and to glue this to the fronts.
I knew all those spring clamps would come in useful one day.
Finally a picture of the drawer fronts with the Ash burr veneer applied.
I hope to spend most of tomorrow in the workshop and get the drawers finished and get a start on the carcass. This might sound a strange way of working but I decided to make the carcass fit the drawers rather than the other way round as I wasn't sure exactly what shape the drawer fronts would end up after forming. As it has turned out they are almost the same shape as the former with just a small amount of springback.

It's looking very good indeed - and hopefully, you'll make it in time for next Friday's deadline... Just don't rush anything now!
Those spring clamps look like the Screwfix one; I've got quite a few of those myself... And half of them were broken within a week! :shock:

lol... I was doing some parts assembly with those spring clamps in ultra large size... I left it to dry and went to watch a movie. Half way through watching it I heard a *SPANG!!!* and a piece of black plastic flew through the hall doorway in hit the wall in the living room. Those damn things are LETHAL! :lol:
Since then I bought a load of cheap F clamps from Toolstation as I've ditched all the spring clamps (currently £1.96 for a pair of 150mm x 50mm F Clamps). I just don't trust the spring clamps anymore from both the safety side and the operational side (imagine them coming apart before the glue has cured properly and you don't notice... it can ruin the piece you are gluing). The Toolstation clamps work well enough and are cheap enough to buy a whole bunch of.

I totally agree, and also bought a few pairs of those F-clamps a while back myself. I also found some Irwin clamps on eBay that'll do pretty much the same job, and bought a pair of them. They're kind of C-shaped, can't remember their precise name...
