I made these in memory of my dad who we lost last year. This is to be a gift to mum as a keep sake
Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did making them

As can be seen by the design he was in the RAF

Thanks guys

The turning of these was very simple but very time consuming

I started with scrapes of acrylic sheet (from scrape bin of local plastics Co) and glued these together as below

Then using a small metal working lathe turned the red to just under 3mm dia

The white was then turned to just over the 8mm drilled out to accommodate the red which was then glued into the white when dried the white was finished by turning it down to 6mm.
The process was repeated with the blue and the white and red glued

This was turned down to the final size of 9mm
Pen blank was prepared in the usual way but with the addition of a 9mm hole crossing at right angles to the pen tube hole. The completed acrylic glued into this re drilled through the normal tube hole and the brass tube glued.Carry on as normal for turning and finishing the pen

I did try to turn the acrylic on the wood lathe to start but the thin size and my short time using a wood lathe I reverted to my metal lathe
Hope this makes sense

Beautiful is what comes to my mind, both
the turning and the sentiment behind it. 8) 8) 8)

Dalboy, I think that's one of nicest sets I've seen.
and the reason for making it makes it even nicer. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
