id like to start collecting planes
was thinking along the lines of "old to restore" planes
but whilst searching on ebay find that that they command some riduculess prices .
so a different approach is called for
car boot sales and second hand shops springs to mind
have got a good start to my collection as my grandad was a craftsman cabinet maker and left me all his tools which contain loads of moulding planes
so , stanley, record , marples , where to begin . and all those model numbers . where can i read up on the subject , prefer books to the internet
any help appreciated
mel

A good many of the books here. Also any old catalogues, either from specific makers if you can get them, or the general ones like Buck & Hickman, MAC etc. For Stanley, until there's another edition of Walter's guide published (hollow laughter), your best bet is Blood & Gore. Also a ton of other stuff online, I suspect most of it linked to here.

Noooooooo!

Don't do it......!

Sure...it starts off with a boot sale.... then it's a couple of small auctions....

Next thing you know.... you're buying small buildings to put 'em all in....

You've been warned!

Rob
(waiting for the results of his absentee bids from LFOD, so he can figure out what to bid on at Brown's....) (And - the David Stanley catalogue arrived today!)

Gee, you guys are terrible. Glad I don't have a plane problem
Sweating,
Philly 8-[
Who also has a saw problem.....

Look, can we at least get people safely sliding before we give the warning? [-X Anyway, a bit of will power and you can give up any time you like, can't you? :^o 'Course poverty helps slow the speed of descent too. Tell you what, chaps, if storage is an issue, you buy 'em, I'll store 'em... \:D/

Waka,

How do you define a collector?

Someone who is slim with hair?
Someone who lives in Poole?
Someone who lives in Cornwall?
Someone who is not a man?
Someone who has a mate who is a welder?

Mix and match from the above....

Regards
martin (getting his coat....)

This is for Philly, Alf & Mahking

How do you define a collector?
What are you suggesting...? [-( A collector is someone who loses their coffee mug amongst their tools and takes 23 photos to find it again...

No pictures didn't happen

Jasper (hoping Rob will lose his coffee mug again)

Hi Jasper -

It's a strange Canadian custom that we don't use coffee mugs at this time of year....it's "roll up the rim to win" season....

Perhaps I can shoot a few more soon...

Cheers -

Rob
