If anyone ever needs to open a coconut leaving a nice clean edge then I can confirm that it can be done easily on a lathe - position it between centres so that the cut line position is rotating without too much irregularity and then simply use a thin parting tool at that position. Cut through the shell only and finish off with a knife.

And it's probably a good idea to empty the milk out first:)

What is this life if full of care

We have no time to stand and stare?

No time to stand beneath the boughs

And stare as long as sheep, or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Apparently Duncan has :)

Once you've carefully cut your coconut on the lathe perhaps you could make one of these

Pete

Splutter - $26?? for half a coconut?

Heres a question though - when you are cutting the coconut on your lathe - have you emptied it first?
