With my ongoing efforts to diversify my income stream I bought a Clarkson tool cutter grinder some months ago with the hope of being able to offer a router cutter regrinding service.
I took the grinder to bits and rebuilt it with a fresh paint job. The only thing I had to make was a new leadscrew nut. I did update the electrics as well.
I’ve been experimenting with different diamond abrasive wheels and after finding out how the cutters are ground when they are made I’m using 2 wheels finishing on 400 grit. The factory has a three stage process with the last wheel being an 800 grit polishing wheel.
Although I never expected to get as good a cutting edge as a new cutter I’m producing an edge which I’m pretty pleased with. It's certainly a significant improvement on a blunt cutter.
If anyone wants to post a blunt cutter off to me pm me I’ll regrind it and send it back FOA.
I’d like some feedback from other woodworkers.
Thanks,
Philip.
