I'm buying some clamps, currently only have 2 sash clamps! Wanted some advice on what people thought was a good set.

My thinking is quick clamps for use with circular saw guide etc

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=20506&name=quick+clamps&user_search=1&sfile=1&jump=0

is 4 a good number to start with or would 2 or 3 be enough more most jobs?

and these look useful

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=19700&name=spring+clamps&user_search=1&sfile=1&jump=4

plus a couple of 200mm G clamps

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=21193&name=g+clamps&user_search=1&sfile=1&jump=0

maybe more sash clamps I've got some carcases to glue in the near future and then a lot of draws, how many is a minimum for jobs like this?

Also would like a bench clamp

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axminster-Bench-Clamp-460153.htm

or

http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Veritas-Hold-Down-22129.htm

question is does the veritas one simply grip into standard dog holes? Doesn't mention a special collar needed so think it looks like the better option.

Any other comments on what would or wouldnt be useful would be gratefully received.

Yes. I find it very versatile and one of the most useful things I've invested in.

You really never can have enough cramps. The trouble is, unless you keep it simple it can cost you a fortune. I have lots of these type http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Axmi ... 376877.htm

The ones I use are Record #130 but they are all basically the same. With different lengths of wood you can make up whatever length cramps you need.

The other types of cramp I use are various sizes of Record 120 G cramps

I also have a few fretwork cramps. In over 30 years of doing woodwork these have done everything I have wanted and it didn't cost me a fortune.

For clamping work to the bench these are excellent http://www.brimarc.com/home.php3?page=p ... c=C_106_14 and the Veritas holdfast will fit in the same holes without a collar.

Cheers

I would also look at the Wolfcraft clamp as they are cheaper than the Stanley one but I think better as you can move the head both ways with one hand :) .

I will be getting more of them soon

Here is a link for them :)

Thanks for advice so far, new shopping list

Some of the Wolcraft quick clamps, probably go for four to begin with.

The veritas bench clamp

Undecided on another sash or maybe some of the jaws to join to wood batons.

Thinking that might do to begin with for clamping whilst working and also gluing up.

I started with 4 sash cramps from APTC, it's not enough. The truth really does appear to be that you can never have enough but then you can do a lot with a ratchet strap or a rope & spare bit of stick, Spanish windlass stylee.

I have a load of the Wolfcraft quick clamps and they're good vut I've just got a few of the new PRO version and they are better if you can stretch to it. Longer jaws.

Cheers
