*it sez clamp on the box is that 'merican for cramp?

Yes Quib.. Next question?

All part of the Dakota branding attempt to make you think you are buying an American product. Most of the Dakota brand comes from the Fortune extendables company from what I can tell. I think Dakota is just a Rutlands brand name. Google Fortune Extendables and you will see a vast amount of the Dakota kit there

Like HP sauce and Cadbury's chocolate. All owned outside of the UK now. On principle I was going to give it the elbow, but it all tastes the same so why deny myself the things I like?

I feel like a traitor, but I'm a well-fed one!

Oh and Quib, I wasn't being 'funny'... even tho it might have seemed so!

John :)

Don't get me wrong, I think the Dakota brand is pretty good.... I have a few of their tools. Just think it's a little underhand to call it Dakota when the kit never has had anything to do with the USA ... well apart from being copies of some American patents. .... hmmm think I've just had that little bell go off in my head .... If they are gonna copy patents why wouldn't they be shady elsewhere? doh! :)

I find that i use either quick action clamps or some aluminium sash clamps the most. I have a fair few T section sash clamps that i use for clamping up panels but they are a bit heavy for general use in glue ups and as long as your joints arent too tight a fit the aluminium ones exert plenty of pressure with very little weight (and are quite capable of gluing up panels as well).
I have had lots of different quick clamps but am most pleased with the screwfix ""forged steel"" ones that i bought about three years ago. The price has gone up since i got mine but they are still very good value compared to the irwin ones and in my opinion are just as good quality (ive not broke one yet but i have broke quite a few other models) i find the 12'' and 18'' most usefull and 4' and 3' sash clamps (although you will always find a use for a few larger models).
Hope this is some help as i think early on in my clamp buying life i spent money on clamps that saw little use really and with hindsight i would have done better to get some other models which would have been more versatile.

Hopefully for this weekend warrior they'll cope just fine.
