Cladding Garage

I am cladding my garage and I would like to make it waterproof, but I don't want to waste money and wonder whether cladding with a 1" void over batten will be enough of a waterproof barrier or should I spend money and put celotex between the battens. This will obviously make it very dry, but I suspect it will cost.

Celotex won't do much as a waterproofer* you want to add a breather membrain between the studs and the counterbattens. Tyvek or similar will keep the water out but allow the structure to breathe.

* You can still add celotex/kingspan between the studs for insulation and if you then tape accross the inside of the studs with 4" foil tape this will provide a vapour barrier so you don't get interstitual condensation in the insulation.

I noticed you said use breather membrain between the studs and counterbattens but I would of thought you do the same as you do a roof of a house and use a breathable membrain felt around the garage and then counterbatten it then clad it. Its the cheapest option to make it water proof. Putting it between the stud wouldnt make it waterproof.

May be the way it reads. I did not mean to fit individual bits of membrain between each stud. Wrap the stud walls with membrain and then fix the counterbatten so in section the membrain is "between" the batten and stud same as a roof as you say.

I know it could of meant both.

but a lot of people don't know just like the person asking the question thought kingspan between battens would make it waterproof. He might of now gone a head and put felt between the studs lol joking! but you never know!
