I've got a Vicmarc vm100 chuck which I got for my old axminster lathe. The thread is 1x8tpi which I assume has been made possible wih an insert (chuck is in the workshop so ca't check right now). I'd like to get an insert for my union graduate lathe 1.5x6tpi. Does anybody know a cheap(ish) place where I can get an insert? Also I assume the insert will mean the chuck hanging further off the lathe due to the spindle size of the graduate. Is it still ok to use the chuck like this?

I'd really love to sell this chuck and buy a oneway chuck but that is mega money which I don't have at the moment.

Cheers,

Dave

I thought all of Phil Irons prices used to be online. I think he was after quite a bit for the insert (and I'm sure he'd have just bought them from elsewhere). The insert size problem is my main concern. I don't want to throw good money into something which really isn't going to do so well on my lathe.

Maybe I'd be better off selling the chuck. Anybody interested?

Cheers,

Dave

The insert screws into the chuck (obviously) with the required thread completely outside the chuck body. The adapter is quite long to accommodate this and so the chuck sticks out further than with inserts for smaller threads.

I have a 11/2x6TPI R/L and a 3/4x16TPI adapter for the VM100 which I no longer need. PM if you're interested :)

Just a quick note.

I bought the chuck mentioned and it arrived this morning after a pleasant, easy transaction.

Thank you Dave.
