hi ive had a chopping board made from oak 2" thick, may someone please advise how to treat ie 3 coats of teak oil and then how to look after it following bleaching from cleaning or is hydrogen peroxide better 9%, regards wukkie1

would that be ok to say cooked meats and then wash with washing up liquid and then uncooked meats does it sterilise it regards wukkie1

nothing wrong with being over clean, what do people think about the hydrogen peroxide sterilisation wukkie1

I made some boards from some beech and coated them in veg cooking oil.
They went rancid after a while and smelt horrible.
Now prefer to leave them untreated - giving them a quick scrub in soapy water works fine.

For cleaning wood chopping blocks, try making up a mix of vinegar, water, dash of eco friendly washing up liquid, squirt of lemon juice and a splash of olive oil. Put it in a squeezy mister bottle like you get in the garden centres. Shake well before each use. You can use it to clean your worktops too. Try neat tung oil wiped on sparingly every now & again, especially after you've given it a clean.. It goes on more easily if its warm - can be mega thick if cold. Or olive oil is not bad for the job. You won't get much oil to soak into oak though, unless its an end grain block, so it will need oiling more regularly than a more permeable wood like sycamore / maple / beech.
