...before the Cliffie arrives :)
Tell us more :!: Going by the list above, you're only missing a 4½ and a 5. But then again you've got two No.7s (inc. a QS). Or is this a No.8 Cliffie cap-iron as a back-up?

Cheers, Vann.

As Dave slides onto the couch and lies back and Vann picks up the clipboard, settles back into the Highback windsor chair........

I think I know what you are thinking......2 No7's, tad extravagant eh?
I fettled the record 7 and nearly killed myself on the engineers plate flattening the sole and would have soled her (sorry) but imagining only getting £30 quid for 30 hours fettling, I thought I'd keep her in the QS box on top of the cupboard, where the wife cant reach

I was worried you would think I was showing off. .......Well......... if you force me...... I should come clean  and admit to a very sentimental record 4 1/2 my first (love) plane, awarded when I finished my City and Guilds 585.1 Carpentry and Joinery course......., polished the sole 10 years ago with wet n dry now I'm no longer on-site ................Then on the C+G 764.1 cabinet making course, saw the purchase of most of a low knob Stanley 5 1/2 and a few months later 60 1/2 for my birthday........Since then the wife insists its gotten out of hand........not really I tell her,........ I can control it......I can stop......honest....Sniff Sniff

Her Christmas present to me last year was harlequin half set (evens) rounds and hollows......How could I resist !

Oh........... and this years summer holiday saw me having to buy a the QS LA62, (without a hotdog Matthew) and jamming it into the suitcase with 23kgs of tools....leaving a little room for the toothbrush.

The No 8 Cilffe blade was on eBay.......for £31 including P+P few days ago  ...Honest....wont buy anything else......the Marples draw knife dosn't really count....its not really a plane is it ?

As Dave sits up and slides off the couch....... "Well....Vann, thanks for the councilling I feel a lot better to get that off my shoulders, been eating away at me for quite a few years now"

I think we should start a weekly session , I think there are a lot of people here need to unload.

I think you might have got it cheaper if some silly person hadn't been bidding against you!

Hang on a minute - there's no No.4½ in that list above. If you want therapy to work you've got to fully relax and open up to your therapist. So let's start again: you've got a 3, a 4, a 4½, a 5½ (or most thereof), a 6; two 7s, an 8, a LA62 and a 60½ (not counting woodies). Is there anything else you'd like to tell me (us)

I picked up a Record No.8 ($67 NZD ~ £34UKP)...
My Record 08.jpg
...but i wanted an SS model. I bought a Clifton cap-iron from Dieter-Schmid in Germany (€28.74 euros VAT free for NZ) as there was no stock left in UK. Then I bought a Cliffee iron from Traditional Woodworker in the States (79.95 USD) - again because there was no stock left in the UK. Then the dilemma, to file the mouth, or not to file the mouth? That beaten up old Record is hardly a valuable plane, but I just couldn't bear to 'damage' it. So I had the iron surface ground (by a friend) down from ~3.3mm to ~2.85mm. It now slides through the mouth with just the slightest gap (the worlds largest smoother? - I might have to ask him to take a whisker more off).

Then I bought another Record No.8, a No.8ss this time (well for $36.50 NZD ~£19 UKP, what's a man supposed to do?). It was missing a bit...

The 'deflector' is there but, perversely, the main part of the 2-piece cap-iron is missing.

I haven't finished fettling either of them yet . And you thought you needed therapy

Unload emotions? Or, as my wife would say, here's the courier van again, better help unload another couple of rusty tools... (hammer)

Cheers, Vann.

And the defendant asked for 20 more planes to be taken into consideration!!!

Hey Vann...that is weird...the top half being missing.

There was a top half on FleaBay a few weeks back...they often come up because someone drops the other bit on their toe...but never seen...nor would I understand...a missing top bit. Strange!! #-o
