recently there was a thread about making wooden mallets.
yesterday i walked through wembley town centre, for the first time in yonks, and decided to call into Wilkinsons, a cheap retailer.

in their diy section i noticed a couple of things which may or may not be of interest.

a complete wooden mallet of the rectangular type for 1.99,
and an axe for 4.99 with allegedly a hickory handle. they also had a number of hammers with handles marked as hickory at similar prices. :?

did not buy anything, since i have too many hammers, mallets and axes now, but thought those who were starting out might get a bargain mallet if nothing else  at least at that price you can see whether you like it, and throw it away without too many tears from the wallet or swmbo

sorry alf for once even i couldn't provide that one. must have had a sense of humour transplant

but then knowing you, you can make a mallet for less than 1.99,
indeed for many of us, the petrol cost may be more than the value of
the mallet.

Sheesh, when I went to read this thread I was confidently expecting a picture of a tree branch...

You mean, something like this, a 0 GBP finely handcrafted mallet, partially sculptured by my special mallet dog:

Regards,

Marc,

specialized in training dogs to mallets and cans

Marc, exactly the sort of thing. Or like this one recently posted on WoodNet. :D

Cheers, Alf

P.S. I see it's a multi-tasking mallet dog and does green plastic as well.
