I've currently got an Elu Mof 96 as my main (only!) router, and a Trend table. Mounting it up is an inconvenience though, so I was thinking of getting a basic router to mount on the table permanently. Would need to be 1/4" to allow use of bits in both.

Any suggestions or warnings would be welcomed!

Thanks

buy a half inch router. they come with adaptor collets for quarter inch bits. Once you have it working in a table, you will want to do bigger and better things with it and most of the specialist bits are half inch.

Every one has their favourite brand of router. you will get many recommendations. I have a makita (1801 i think) in my table and its brilliant.
I have a power plus router mounted on a sled as I cant afford a planer thicknesser. When using it its obvious that it isnt the same quality as the makita, but it still works fine.

What are the views on the triton ones? For table use they seem to have great accessibility and adjustment from above.

Yep, no problem with one of those in a table. Made for it. Whip out the spring (CAREFULLY and away from your face :) and you're golden.

The spring comment was for the TRA. No experience of the others. Sure they're fine.

Triton make decent routers so i am sure you will be pleased. I have the tra001 permanently fixed under my table and it is great.

Just one bit of advice which may apply to your machine as well as mine. If you use it for mdf, make sure you give the router a really good clean afterwards. The very fine dust can get into the machine and cause issues. I routed the noses on stair treads recently and i couldn't get my collet to lock to remove the bit after. I found out the issue was the dust getting into partss and after a good clean, all was well again. I do use an extractor with it as well.

Other than than that, it has been spot on and i use it a lot so it has been well tested.

Good luck

Nick

Thanks, useful info. Since building my shop vac into a proper little cart I've got much better at cleaning up immediately after use so I'll make the most of it!

Just to confirm the same as has been said the TRA001 is great in a permanent table set up. It's very powerful and this very heavy for handheld use, but great in a table, and the ability to adjust the height from above is really useful.
