changing orientation in SU help needed

Can anyone assist, I am having trouble changing orientations when performing certain actions namely using the circle tool or protractor tool to change axes,

e.g. when drawing a circle it will enable me to draw the circle in the blue axis but will not change to the red or green, I am aware that you can lock the axis by pressing the shift key however i cannot get it to toggle in the first instance

The same problem occurs when I wish to rotate a certain item I click to protractor tool to rotate but cannot toggle between the three axes it just stays on one,

Do I have to live with this or is their an easy fix

If I draw a cube then approach it with the rotate tool the orientation (and colour of the protractor) changes according to which face of the cube I approach. Don't know if there is a way to force that behaviour with a 2D surface. I'll wait for a more knowledgeable reply and learn with you

There are several ways to align the Circle, Protractor and Rotate tools. If you want to align them so they are vertical, you can either orbit to a low view point, you can hover the tool on a surface that is oriented in the same direction and then lock it by holding Shift or if there is an edge that would be, say the center of rotation or running perpendicularly through the circle. Click and hold the left mouse button while tracing along that edge. That edge could also be a guideline.

No one solution will work for every situation so you should learn all of them.
