How easy is it to change a motor from a Union Jubilee or Graduate from 3 phase to 1?

Are the motors available quite easily? And more important how much would it cost?

Would i have to get it checked over with a sparky?

Would it be easier to get an inverter instead of changing the motor? IE cheaper?

Cheers

I believe single phase motors are quite expensive compared to 3 phase.

You'd be better keeping the 3 phase and getting an invertor as Graham suggests and converting the lathe to variable speed.
