Cat wheel is starting to take shape, unfortunately I snapped one half of the running surface :(

Got the first half glued into one of the rims, the other rim is dry fitted just to enable me to clamp it up.

My dirty little kerf cutting sled/ jig/ thingy works just fine, saves a boat load of work marking out and freehand cutting which ends up at pretty much any angle except 90 degrees!

Looking good. This may help In the future if you make more of them it's a plywood which is bendy and will bend easily into that shape with no kerfing or having no end of filling and sanding to do

I just got a quote for a pallet of 46 sheets of 12mm bendy..

£100-30 per sheet! - I think I will waste 30 minutes a wheel kerfing £15 a sheet WBP LOL

Have you used this material? I am assuming that along the grain it would be as strong as normal ply, so once glued into the grooves in the rim it would be pretty much solid?

Ahh. Cat wheel. I was scratching my head because I wanted to read Cart wheel. Can you fit these things with a dynamo ?

It would not be a bad idea the speed my two bengals run around them LOLOL, maybe a belt drive system to drive power tools like a watermill LOLOL

Hi yes I have used a fair bit of it mainly for curved doors and furniture. I imagine the 8mm stuff will be fine once glued into the rims. You might have to create a half lap where the ends meet and glue it together. Another option would be to laminate 2 bits of 3mm together and glue them together when inserting them into the rims. Once glued together the plywood is really rigid .

Latham have a branch about 12 miles from me so I have reserved ten sheets of 8mm which we will collect Monday or Tuesday. I think 8mm should be strong enough when glued into the rims, do you happen to know the MBR of the 8mm?

Just for interest this is an autocad render of the wheel and base unit.

I designed it in 2d using inkscape originally but then tried out sketchup to design in 3d but soon got fed up with its limitations so thought I would yet again try to get my head around 3d in autocad and it is starting to sink in this time at last.

I should add it will be fully painted in real life but couldn't resist playing with wood textures in AC :)
