My wife works from a workshop at the bottom of our garden and I tried all sorts of boosters and hi gain wireless boxes but in the end just laid a cable.

The wireless signal was just too week to be worth it, she is only about 25 metres from the router box and only a window in the house and one in her workshop to get through.

Oddly enough my brother-in-law had exactly the same mouse problem. Do the make the plastic out of mouse food?

I've had a look at wireless and it seems like the only thing that will go that far is wireless-N. Two problems with this....firstly the protocol hasn't even been finalised....secondly most laptops don't come with wireless-N so it would need a dongle. There may be other stuff I haven't read about though...

Cheers,

Dave

Animals have to chew to wear their teeth so they can continue to be able to eat...and this coating is nice to have a chew on.It sure made me a lot of overtime replacing cables.
Go with the upgraded wire, you won`t be disappointed.

Cheers for all the info. I like the look of the homeplug style connection but the price is a little high. Roger has sorted me with some cable. All the other ways of connecting seem a little daft when I can put down proper cable for next to nothing.

Still plenty of info to keep me going.

Thanks Flying Haggis for the link to Netgear review. It prompted me to look on Amazon UK where they sell the Solwise and Delovo(?) versions. All get good reviews so when I need to use my pc in the workshop I will try the Solwise Homeplug. They are not as fast as ethernet but faster than my internet connection.

If I was starting again I would put the Cat5E cable in at the same time as the power cable but as there is not now an easy and inconspicuous route through to my router location the homeplugs provide a lazy solution.

Regards

Graham
