Sorry if this has been covered before.

How stable is a cabinet mounted on four castor wheels like this? Axminster castor link

Can you safely have a router table sitting on top of them and not have it wobble when you use it?

I built a trolley like this for my table saw:

and I quite like it. It sits solidly on the legs while in use, and then just tip it up onto the fixed wheels for moving. It's not the easiest thing in the world to steer though.

I'm currently thinking about rearranging my workshop, but despite it's roughly 5m by 5m size, I can't seem to give all the machines the space that I want, while maintaining a good amount of bench space. I was thinking having a lot of machines that can move about, and just wheeling them into space when needed, and pushed against the wall when not, might be a solution.

Thanks, Iain

My bandsaw, SCMS and drill press are all on those castors. All are solid in use.

Yep, most of my machines are on similar castors as well (though, mine came from either Toolstation or Screwfix). They should be stable enough as long as you put them near the corners of the base - doubly important if they're supporting something narrow like a pillar drill or bobbin sander.

I have my planer/thicknesser on the axminster mobile base (the old type where you tread on a lever to raise it on to a wheel)
Bit awkward but movable.
My Bandsaw came with castors (put on by the previous owner)
Makes it movable but again awkward. It is stable enough to put large chunks of wood through it though.

The guys have already pretty well answered this one but I'll add my 2 p worth anyway. I used the Axminster 75 mm locking castors on my router table (plan from "Woodworking with the router" by Hylton and Matlack). They are rock solid in use with the front set locked. I liked them so much that I put them on the mobile base I made for my bandsaw and I'm planning a mobile base for my drill press too.

Hi,

I'm a bit late on this one. Just to add my bit, my Router table is on castors (it's the only one of my machines that is mobile) and it is perfectly stable - in fact, I was using it today and forgot to lock the wheels, it still didn't shift
