And the worst thing for Karl was that his router packed up while he was fitting the worktops on my kitchen!

A crackin' job he did, too!

Cheers guys.

However, I noticed that the live wire on the switch had a nick in it

So I plugged the router in, flicked the switch on and put an electric screwdriver on the exposed cabling. No power. Faulty switch?

Steve - the spindle turns fine by hand.

Cheers

Karl

Karl I would be very suspicious of that nicked cable.

You say the nicked cable is the live INTO the switch, but when you checked with your electrical screwdriver there was no power at the nick! It does sound to me as though power is not reaching the switch?

So the problem is more likely to be the fuse (check again) or the wall socket/mains supply to the socket.

It looks as though the nicked cable has been shorting - this could be the cause of the failure.

This is all IMHO and I hope I have not misread any posts :?

I had the same problem and i was doing some worktops. flicked the switch and nothing. mine was the speed control. try turning your router on and move the speed control around. even try moving it up and down slightly as that is what i did and it worked if i held the control in a certain position but only at about half the max rpm. mine cost about £75 to be repaired.
