I'm trying to get a antique brown stain similar to a rich tobacco colour or vandyke crystals but it needs to be spirit based.

I've tried a few different Rustins stains and they were all far too weak and non really gave the right brown shade I was after.

Could anyone suggest something for me? Thanks

Tetsuaiga, If you get a sample trial pack, (or packs there are two ranges Rainbow Colours Plus or Wood Colours) of the stains you can always experiment with mixing them to obtain the tint you want.

Not a cheap option for a One Off job but I've found them an invaluable resource for that quick fix of an unwanted colour cast or match and saves the max expenditure on the larger units for when a favourite shade is found.

Not personally used the Rustins products but surprised that the pigment density was not adequate, I occasionally have to thin down what I use to give a washed out tint.

Hi
The nearest I got to that colour is with Manns Oak Wood stain Old Oak. Unfortunately the smallest quantity is 250ml.

If you need a contact PM me

Thanks I didn't know about spirit based van dkye crystal. I really liked the water based van dkye I had recently but it wasn't suitable because of its non existent resistance to water.

I bought two more today to try, chestnut brand and Liberon. Both are much better than my experience with Rustins.
