I have just got an annual bonus and have some money to spend :D
I don't really need anything as such, however....

I hav lots of wood for next two projects and no space for some more so I was thinking of.
A LV LA jack plane I can use it to shoot as I sold my Jack plane on ebay (long story)
And my biscuit joiter is by SIP and i cannot get it to run Square despite shimming etc. So i was thinking of spending big and maybe getting a Domino or a new biscuit jointer. As i have some project where i can justify the expense (to myself anyway)
So question is ..... Is it worth going to show for discounts and is a Domino capable of what a biscuit jointer does or would I need both??

You can get good discounts at shows - but it's more usual to get freebies (consumables if you are lucky) thrown in.

Visiting a show as a whole might not be a bad idea - but specifically for tools, unless you plan to spend big dosh, might not be too productive, especially when you factor in around 2hrs to get there and 2hrs back - in your case.

Me - I'm only 30 or so mins away, whether I buy something or not, it's an escape from the usual - so go almost every year.

I'd hazard a guess that you would beat the best internet price by around 10-15%, depending on how much you are spending. In some cases, I've seen stuff that I know is cheaper locally.

As for the Domino - I'm sure someone who has one will be a long soon enough.

Not to bothered about the drive as i will stay night before in Sheffied with friend and intend to get some climbing action after show. Hopefully :)

In that case, give it a go - you haven't much to loose and you'll probably bump into Escudo, Woody Alan and I. Just keep an eye out for the most upset trader as we start haggling. :)

On a serious note - be worthwhile to identify your prospective purchases and have reference prices in mind.

Have been researching the internet with avengence. However they the exhibitors have bothered to turn up at a show and i always feel that is worth supporting as these things tend to fade away if people don't buy stuff. I am not sure we have any good places to go in Nottingham (though it could be that i havn't found them yet) and I always like a good ferret about.

I wouldn't consider the domino as a replacment for the biscuit jointer, IMHO they do different jobs, and domino's can't be used in really thin material unlike the biscuit jointer. Neither can a biscuit jointer give as strong loose tenon joints as a domino so I see the two tools as catering for different jobs.

I'm also considering getting an LV Jack - great planes, and I need to replacement a crappy stanley. I'm sure you can't go wrong with veritas.
