I finally got the finish on the beds but am still waiting for the drawer runners! I ordered them 5 days ago too! :( I sent them an e-mail last night and suddenly they have been dispatched this morning.

Well the runners finally arrived today and I got the beds finished. These photos were taken before I stained inside the handle cut outs.

The customer has to buy the two mattresses for the bunks yet but did have the one for the pull out. Needles to say they were very impressed with it I am glad to say. :D

Bit late for this project but how about using these Cross Dowel Bolts: for any future jobs.

And these Insert Nuts in the Dowel:

To lock them together, 4mm allen key better than screwdriver to fix/remove for customer.

Thanks Chas but I do prefer to use the coach bolts as they can be nipped up really tight. I am always worried about those inserts pulling out with too much pressure. I had to repair a few restaurant tables a few months back that were fitted with those and they had all come loose in the timber. I ended up doweling them all and glueing them together.

Must admit I have in the past re-seated them with a coat of epoxy in the threaded hole when using in softwood.
Alternately I have bonded Cross nuts in with epoxy to stop them rotating in hidden situations.
