What about a secondhand Wadkin-Bursgreen?

In a British shed* ? as a first table saw ? on a £300 budget ?

The title of the thread is "Budget table saw"; the Wadkins are magnificent machines and can be picked up for "bargain" prices, but just moving one looks to be a major and potentially costly undertaking. Restoring a cheap secondhand one is hardly a task suitable for someone's first table saw, a lot are three phase and converting one to single phase might blow the budget alone.

*Most 'sheds' in the UK are pretty lightweight construction, a big cast iron saw would just go through the floor (assuming you could get one in to start with).

Way beyond what the OP wants, needs, can afford or will fit in his shed!

I forgot that you do not have 3 phase power everywhere in Britain...... so it was a very stupid idea indeed.

Sometimes I also forget that everyone isn't living in a place like I do where sheds tend to be big and there are at least a dozen metalworkers in the village who can tackle any repair short of making new castings. Anyone can build or rebuild anything if there are such a support group who can help one through all the difficult stages. Over here it is not uncommon for an aspiring woodworker to weld up one's first table saw from materials bought at the scrapyard.

Well UK has 12 times the population of Finland squeezed into under 3/4 of the land size - so we can't each have nearly as much room as you lucky lot can

I forgot that you do not have 3 phase power everywhere in Britain......

It's rarely seen in anything other than commercial premises. Installing to domestic properties is, to say the least, expensive.

The word 'shed' here is usually associated with thin structures rarely bigger than 3m x 2m

Unfortunately a lot of us in the UK are greatly hindered by lack space for woodworking compared to our continental colleagues. Also living so tightly packed can have noise problems with neighbours if we try to do too much machine work.

Personally I'd find a way to increase the budget - either wait and save, sell a kidney, whatever it takes.
I struggled along with contractor saws for a while (Makita and Metabo) and found that whilst they are perfect for equalising timber joists on site and basic dimensioning of timber they are in no way accurate enough for furniture or cabinetry. That's not to say they can't be used for these tasks, but it'll drive you mad!!!
I would advise looking for something s/h.
I bought a Wadkin AGS10 thats about 40 years old for £400 and it works like a dream. I can't see that I'll ever need to upgrade it

Hope Mark do-sent mind me jumping in but rather than fire up another thread on table saws. I am well and truly stuck with a budget of under £200 and I just wondered if the Jet JTS-10 from Axminster was a better choice out of the saws around the £150 mark? Wife has been fighting cancer Ive used all my savings on extra expenses and travel etc and really unable to travel around for second hand. Just looking for a reasonable starter table saw for DIY and home woodworking projects. Sorry again Mark good luck fella hope you get what your hoping for

I was thinking about tractor sheds.........
I would go daft if I had to live in that cramped island of yours......... No wonder Britain had plenty of colonies..... they had to have somewhere to put all the surplus Brits that otherwise would fall into the sea and drown....... then they learned to build high rise buildings and did not need colonies any more

not a problem mate, some of the ones i found have had good reviews on screwfix (like this http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-ebs25 ... 230v/24053) could most likely find them cheaper else where as well.

Plus we chopped down all our trees and now have to buy them from Finland! Paying rather a lot to everyone in between !!
