As its too wet for much else I have been refitting the forks off my 1949 B31, but I seem to have hit a snag. I can only draw the strut about halfway into the top yolk which means the big chrome top nut either doesn't quite reach the top of the strut or will only have about a thread and half to bite on, which I don't think is enough. As the top of the struts are tapered they will only go so far, but the matching hole in the top yolk is apparently parallel sided. Should the top of the strut be level with or just under the top of the yolk, at the moment I am about 10mm shy, any advise please?

In the end I did get them to seat properly, it just need a bit of WD40 and a bit more torque, but thanks to your posting I now realise I forgot to grease the rebound springs, so they will need to be dismantled again. Its all good practice.
