I bought some oak floor recently from online shop (ebay) with woodworm holes in them- threw that stuff right out! Got a full refund as well...Wasn't even brave enough to use it to make planters out of it. Everyone at skip was thinking I was some nutjob that I threw out full boxes of oak flooring out just like that, however I think someone might have that flooring in his home right now as it was fished out in front of my eyes :D
+ that's a fresh timber you got there, I wouldn't risk it...

Gosh those woodworm holes in image DSCF8793 are huge :D

I cant see clearly enough to see any detail on the timber, some of it looks like yew by the deep orange yellow heartwood and white-ish sapwood

Although I think laburnham looks like that too

Yes some of it is yew :D And he did tell me what the timber was in the photo DSCF8793 but my memory is terrible although i did have a shock on how light it was a little like balsa wood although the timber on the bench is ash holly elm and ?? ps i only know this as it,s written on the timber

Rub a candle over the holes to fill them, leave the wood in a clean place and watch for new flight holes with fresh sawdust to see if the worm is active or old and long gone.

Thank,s i will do it this afternoon how long do you think would be a suitable time to wait to see if there is any activity with them ??
Alan

No idea, I was advised to do the same for some roof timbers in an old house I bought. I watched them closely at first then lost interest several years later an still nothing so assumed old and inactive. At least a few months I'd have thought.
