Hi guys,

When I unpacked my Bosch GTS10 Mitre saw the clip that clicks into the angle detents was broken, the "saddle" (the piece which actually bolts to the saw) has snapped where a bar goes through two holes.

Phoned bosch customer services, they said the'd send me a replacement but it never arrived, does anyone have any ideas?

Here are a couple of pictures (I hope!)

Chase it up with Bosch

Why fix it if its a new machine, just get them to send another part.

Its quite hard work, press 1, press 2, "hello, my saw came with a broken piece, the bit that hangs down that sets the angles, well not the bit, but the bracket...." you get the picture I'm sure.

I'll probably try again next week.

If you're unsure as to how to describe the parts to the Bosch team, it might be easier for you to identify them by number first, in the manual.

If you don't have a manual for your saw, you can view one as a .PDF file on their website. :)

There shouldn't be any need to go through the hassle of fixing it yourself.

I'm not an expert on law by any means but I reckon you could also just take it back to your supplier under the Sale and Supply of Goods and Services to Consumers legislation, which requires amongst other things that:

Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).

The law places the responsibility for making good on the seller, not the manufacturer. Thus you can return it to them, and they'll take care of contacting Bosch and either have your saw repaired or replaced.

Cheers

I bought the saw from Screwfix, I can't be bothered to get it replaced, the saw is still usable, just the quick selection of angles is unavailable, a feature which I don't use all the time. If I need a 45 I have to use the scale and lock it down.

The part in the manual is described as "the lever for miter angle adjustment (horizontal)", so I need "the bracket which connects" "the lever for miter angle adjustment (horizontal)", to the saw! I'll give it another go next week.

I don't understand why you don't take it back. If you live in Bingley, there's the screwfix shop in Bradford, where you could take it and thats probably less than 10 miles away

The screwfix shop doesn't take stuff back that was bought online, I've tried before.

Screwfix will arrange collection of faulty goods as well as delivery of the replacement.
A call or email to their customer services will sort this out. No reason why you should not have a perfect item.

Yes as above ,if you haven't already.
Pick up the phone they are very good at returns as easy as ordering it.
They will arrange to pick it up :)

£5, better than being without the saw for a week waiting for screwfix/bosch to sort it out.

I am sorry if this seems blunt Woodchip, but its because of situations like this that SOME companies think they can treat their customers like muppets. All right the part only cost you £5 to replace but you should not have had to buy it. Either Screwfix who your contract was with or Borsch (as a gesture of goodwill) should have either replaced the whole machine or the part. IMHO letting them get away with things like this just makes it bad for everyone.

Mailee bought a Dewalt recon machine which came with a broken part and within days a new one was sent and fitted, and that is from a company on Ebay

I am happy that you have it sorted but again IMHO you went about it in the wrong way. But hey its your machine and money.

Cheers

Mike
