I think I've finally come to my senses and realised that the Kapex is just too expensive for me at the moment and that no matter how good it is or how much I want one I cannot justify the cost.

I don't really need the sliding bit as I can my TS55+MFT, so I've reduced my choice to the obvious 3 10 inchers from Makwa, Hitachi and Bosch.
Axminster have this deal on the Bosch so it's the favourite unless anyone can persuade me otherwise.

Anyone got any experience of this saw or suggestions or recommendations?

With any one of these I can get more tools, or a couple of decent lenses for my SLR and a good PDA phone and have cash left over for the price of the Kapex :)

Pete I have the GCM10 and I absolutely love it. Extremely accurate and easy to use.

I have the Hitachi, I think its a bit underated, its no frills but very well made and accurate. I even like the colour. :p .

Hiya

Another vote for the Bosch here, got the slider as well (GCM10SD) like Steve M. Think Alf has one as well. Looked at the DeWalt and Makita equivalents as well but the Bosch (under offer at the time) was 100 quid cheaper with free stand. I am really happy with it and rate it as one of the best and most accurate power tools I have.

SOuunds like C42 had the same deal as I did.

I would say one thing about the stand though - the AX stand is really crap in design, although sturdily enough built. The saw is fixed with two rails and 4 saddles. It's a real faff, and quite dangerous to try to get all 4 in place without dropping the saw, at least on your own. This is important if you do site work (the sliding version is a bit hefty to be descriped as portable - transportable, maybe).

If you buy a stand, I can recommend the SIP one, which is identical in principle but has a user-friendly crank action to attach and detach the saw. Alternatively look in your back-copies of GW for my Quickbase, which will work with any rails-on-legs type of saw stand.

Cheers
Steve
