A couple of times recently, members have asked if bootfairs are worthwhile and what you can get at them...

Well this morning at 6am I just managed to beat all the dealers to these little babies:

Two rather nice steamer recliners for the princely sum of £10 each!

One (above was in a bad way from neglect...and the other was virtually new but had a broken leg...

This is the only defect...and I can easily make a replacement, so I concentrated on the other "weathered" one....

Why do people spend so much money on these things and then neglect them....???

It needs far more coats of teak oil but it is coming along:

I think I will go and have a kip now!

Anyone else get any bargains today?

Good find, and just as the weather's getting good :)

I know....unfortunately I made the mistake of giving Annie some of the rubbing down job...I mean...JUST the footrest for Heaven sake but she now sees this one as her own....and I have to fix the other one before I get to sit down!

But Tom if you bought on of those at a boot fair, you would not be able to get it the car to take it home.

Jim,

Looks like a good buy, shame you let it get side lined by your wife.

Tom....my friend...if you want the other one you can have it for a tenner as it is...I'll share this one with Annie :D

Give you something to fix up...I know you LOVE fixing things up!

Cheers

I'll pass Jim, thanks ;)

No worries mate...I know you have been looking for one.

I hope you realise this means I have to whittle a leg now! :D

Incidentally..I also picked up a whole bunch of files...Some Vallorbe Grobet Swiss pattern....some Sheffield for 50p each....

The 10" VG Bastard is £22 retail alone...and nearly new condition...(although I think Tilgear has a ludicrous offer on these at the moment!)

I just enjoyed getting up this morning..it was blinkin' freezing at 6am but by 9am it was up in the high sixties....mad weather we are having!

Cheers mate

which boot fair out of interest?

The Saturday one along the road from me on the A20 near West Malling.

So far this month I got the ten chisels (a fiver) mostly Stubs, Osborne and Bedfords...and the Vallorbe...and I also got a Jun-Air 600 compressor (Made in Denmark) which would have been about £600 new for a score....

It was running continuously...turned out to be the pressure switch which had a plastic lever broken. I have fixed it for now but I need a new pressure switch really...trouble is they are £30 and it is against my religion to spend more on the bleedin' switch than I did on the whole compressor.

Still it will be great for my two airbrushes as it has two tank feeds.

Cheers

All the ones I go to seem to be filled with either knock offs, 'iffy' 'new' stuff or just useless crap.

I might get up in the morning and have a look.

That's because all the early birds like me and the dealers have bought all the good stuff from sunrise (5:30 ish) to 7am...after that you only get knock offs, iffy "new" stuff and uselss crap! :D

There is supposed to be one at Ebbsfleet...huge apparently although I haven't been yet. Too far into bandit country!

Jim

yeh the one at Ebbsfleet is the one I've been going to for years. It used to be at Pedham Place and Wrotham Hill alternate weeks. Not been since it's been at Ebbsfleet. I think that one is just too big. There's no way I'm getting up at 5am to go to a boot fair

They reckon that there were something like 2000 stalls one fine day at Pedham Place. I once got a 78 Lawsuit Ibanez Les Paul Gold Top there for a fiver....my son nicked it!! My "Les Paul" came from there...broke my heart to pay £60 for it...

It's made by Pearl...the drum people..or was in the seventies...again another Lawsuit edition! Worth quite a bit I do believe...though I would never part with it...

But that was about 6am mate....you have to be up then or not bother really...you might get lucky but generally I head on out when the "tourists" arrive! To many chavs, pit bulls and dubious tracksuit wearing mothers with pushchairs to crash into by then!

:D :D :D
