Hello, I'd like to ask for suggestions please for a good book on woodworking with hand tools. I was here on the forum a bit over a week ago asking about tools for stringed instrument building (and thanks for all the suggestions there, I've made a good start on acquiring some basic tools) and I have ordered a book on the that topic (lutherie). I also have an interest though in what I assume is cabinet making. Specifically, I'm wanting to make wooden cabinets of a type similar to 18th and 19th century peepshow boxes and portable camera obscuras. Can anyone suggest a good book that would help me to learn the necessary techniques in terms of building and finishing the boxes? I'll try paste below some images of the type of thing I mean. Thanks!

I don't know of a book specifically on that topic.

However, most techniques are transferable across all sorts of projects.

You need to cover the basics - selection of wood, measuring, marking, cutting and planing to size.

You'll need some idea about rebating, grooving, and joints, especially dovetails.

These are covered in the usual introductory books - Robert Wearing The Essential Woodworker, for example.
Or Charles Hayward - Cabinet making for Beginners. (You might find it easier to find the new Lost Art edition of his Woodworker writing.)
Maybe the new book from Paul Sellers.

For proper authenticity, I guess you will need some nice mahogany - is it still available in Brazil?

Thanks for the book titles. Yes, it's available - not sure how forest-friendly it is. Last weekend I got a contact for someone who deals in demolition material, haven't called yet, but I'm hoping he may have some. A house i lived in had all the window frames in mahogany and pernambuco wood on the floors - it used to be a fairly common thing.

"boxmaking" - now that's the keyword I was looking for! Thanks, I'm finding lots of things.
