The biggest problem if you do use the dust extractor for other purposes (clearing up the shop) is with the baffle removed and you suck up a length of fabric it is going straight to the impeller.
So damage to the impeller and to your fingers if then trying to extract the fabric might arise.
Perhaps a sliding gate type baffle would get over some of the problems and make it easy to clean off blockages?
