black american walnut

hi all, could someone please tell me what price in cuft for sawn black american walnut is a fair price, as i dont want to be fleeced.

i`m only after small - medium quantities and so far have been priced at £9.18+vat for 32mm x 100mm by 1Meter, i think this works out at around £100(inc-vat) a cuft. i`ve tried iwood but with a min order value of £750 prices me out of that option.

is there anywhere else online where i can view timber prices for a quick reference??

Hi Mark,

If it's any help, I was recently quoted £2245 cubic metre plus VAT (£2694 incl) for 2" ABW, from my usual supplier, Brooks Bros. in Nottingham (used to be Fitchett & Wollacott).

As it's an imported species, I wouldn't be surprised if prices have gone up since but, sometime last year, I would've expected to be paying £45-50 per cubic foot for 1in sawn boards with two square edges...

Just had a look at Interesting Timbers' recently updated price list and has gone up to £64ft³!! :shock: Still, that's almost £20 cheaper than English walnut...

sadly only a small one - and fuel costs make mincemeat of wood price increases!
