hi im making bee hives for myself, i need to glue two 20mm planks 12ft long 14ins wide, total. how do i clamp them together to keep them flat on the width, got clamps for whole width bun not any to span into the centres of the two boards. hope i havent made it complicated sincere

Do you need a 12' length??? If the next thing that you will do is to cut them in to beehive sized pieces, then cut first then glue.

Generally it is recommend not the do the clamps up too tight and to fit alternately on top and below the board along its length. Joint the edges dead straight first. do NOT use clamp pressure to help straighten badly jointed boards (this is why it is so much easier to join short lengths.

Sorry if im being thick, im not great at reading and didn't understand much of your post.

To clamp or cramp being the better word, you just used some sort of clamp/cramp to bring the two boards together.

However as your boards are quite wide 14". I would rip down these to help prevent warping. 2x 7" is a little more then i would like but if your using a decent hardwood i wouldn't worry. So rip down to 7" so you have 4 lengths of 12'. Work out the sizes you plan rip these down to so you don't biscuit where you will cut. Layout your planks and alternate the direction of the growth rings by looking at the end grain (remember 1 happy, 1 sad, 1 happy 1 sad ect).

Route for the biscuits and glue. Now using the clamp/cramp of your choose, place across the boards where you have used a biscuit. Alternate the side you put the cramps on (1 on top, 1 on bottom, 1 on top etc).

There is normally some sanding required but you can push the boards in-align the best you can as you cramp each one up.

Or you can invest in 4 way clamps/cramps.

thanks i think one up and one down is what i need to do. i have two 7" planks to join regards wukkie1

You can clamp two slightly convex pieces of timber across the width, one on top and one under, and clamp at the edges, so that they touch in the middle first to keep the joints in line.....hope this makes sense.
