Hi Guys

Postie turned up with my belated birthday pressies this morning:

:D :D

Namely: Veritas Low Angle Smoother, Marples Marking Gauge and an 18" Leigh superjig. Apparently something else is on it's way too!

Oh and I got an iPod dock for the workshop! :D

Had a bit of a play with the LAS today. It gave good results straight off, but I'll need to sit down and go through the manual tonight. I guess the blade could do with a bit of further honing, it didn't do so well on end grain. I want to use it soley for shooting.

The TS arrives on Tuesday too!

All I need now is a clean bill of health

Wizer,

Do you not think a Dakota dovetail jig would have been a better surprize to wake up to!!!!! {he, he, he,)
Mike

Haven't used it enough yet, but I have seen it in action at MarkW wokshop and it's capable of full length whispy shaving on endgrain for shooting. Which is what I wanted it for.

Mine's in three days time. I've been promised a crate of Beer!
Way hey!

Roy.

Huh! I got socks. :(

So did I, but I can never find any with 2 sons, same with underwear too :(
luckily my feet are only size 7 so my shoewear is safe, their feet are 10/12 respectively

Rich. :)

Mcluma,
Is that the trend dovetail centre 400 with the adjustable pins you refer to?
If it is how do you find setting up and use?

Mike

Nice gloat wizer, and happy belated birthday.

I could have had my belated birthday pressies but this morning the UPS driver told he had two packages from farnell, who had sent a phantom order yesterday. This evening the UPS center called to tell that only one of the packages was from Farnell the other was from Lee Valley. If both should be returned to sende. Hell NO!

That paint brush works very well at clearing the shavings. I dunno why you'd want the fancy LN offering ;)

Now, that's what I call a birthday!!

Surely, you would have to buy these for yourself though...??? :?

I'm now the proud owner of three Veritas planes, not one of the a low angle (it's on my list and - like you - I want it solely for end-grain shooting). I find them to be very sharp out of the box (hence the warning labels! ) but, they do perform even better still with a quick honing on a very fine stone.

Hope you have fun with your new toys. PaulR recently bought one of the Leigh jigs (can't remember which, specifically...), if you want to share experiences.

Make stuff Mike?? I don't make stuff, I just buy tools!! :D

Olly: I make a list around August each year and friends and family pick and choose from it for my birthday and xmas. It means you don't get a load of clothes you'll never wear or a book that has wood in the title but was written for children. ;)

I have actually got dreaded flu again, so I'm out of action for a few days. Typical it's when I am at my busiest in the workshop

Tom,

Well done on getting things you want for presents, making a list is a good plan.
I have the low angle jack and use that on the shooting board, works a treat.

But you really must get round to making something, otherwise you will be called a c#ll~ct%r
