Our birds have had three slices of grannary bread and water since 7am :)

No migrants down here, but I've just watched a plateful of last nights chinese takeaway disappear in about 30 seconds :)

Yesterday we thew out a hole chicken carcase, that lasted two minutes tops :) It was quite funny watching four of five sea gulls fighting over it with two or three Rooks grabbing the gulls tails and towing them backwards :) Birds that have visited in the last two or three days are...

Buzzards
Rooks
Magpies
Blackbirds
Wagtails
Song Thrush's
Chaffinch's
Bullfinch
Goldfinch
Sparrows
Wrens
We have four resident Robbins who regularly fight it out for territory and are tame enough to come in the house given half a chance.

Yesterday I noticed the first ever sighting of a Goldcrest in our garden, I thought it was a wren at first but on closer look it was a goldcrest. :)

PS... not seen one Starling

I saw the first two Goldfinches at the Niger seed today. The speed with which the food is vanishing is surprising, and demonstrates how dependent they are on us under these conditions.
I see that alarm bells are already being rung about some of our smaller species.

Yes we have noticed the nuts seed feeders going down pretty quick lately,
We have Sparrows,Robins,Blue,Great andColeTits,Dunnock,Blackbird,Wren,Pigeons,Collar Doves.
I have also started to break up the fat balls and put them on the ground for the ground feeders.

I seem to be in the wrong thread - very disappointed with the discussion so far - was not anticipating feathers!!!

My sister on the telephone from N. London area is telling me that there are some Redwings in her garden, sent me a web picture saying its the same bird.

Never heard of them in London area before?

First casualty today. A Song Thrush laying in my drive, might have been a road kill though as our front garden is heavily planted and birds fly straight out and onto the road and get struck by passing vehicles.
