Birch ply prices?

My local Howarth Timber have quoted me on some birch ply today. All sizes from 4mm to 18mm and everything in between, starting from £27.83 + VAT for the 4mm, up to 54.50 + VAT for the 18mm. All sheets B/BB grade. Can i do better as this will be an ongoing purchase and every penny counts?

I would say yes. I don't buy a lot but my prices are much less.

I use Lathams, I also had some very good prices from my builders merchants who use international plywood.

How are you getting Birch Ply from Timbmet in Colchester if I may ask? Are you having it delivered from Oxford?

From branch in Basildon. If its a few boards we collect but if you have a pack they'll deliver. If you're buying sheets individually price should still be under 40 Inc vat.

Timbmet were a dead loss. £400 minimum order, which is irrelevant because the prices were way above my local supplier for the same grade. £69+ VAT for 18mm B/BB. Been quoted £54.50+ VAT locally.

I'll give them a call tomorrow, can't recall, but definitely not £28 a sheet for 18mm, more like £38 I think, perhaps more. I pay £22 for WBP 18mm though, so can't imagine Birch being £28.

I had to pay just short of £40. for 15mil. for a 5'x5' sheet round this area.

Got another price locally of £52 inc VAT for 18mm but strangely the prices for 12mm and 15mm were more expensive than the 18mm. They say they buy and sell more 18mm than any other so get it cheaper than the other sizes and pass that saving on to customers. I'm only dealing in small quantities, so not expecting to get it much cheaper. Looks like i will be getting the 18mm from them and other sizes from my usual timber supplier.

I recently bought some 18mm birch from them and found it to be very good. Very few batman plugs and decent consistent laminations.

I have bought from Hanson's before (which was a bit cheaper) but delivery costs meant at the quantities I wanted it at didn't make sense.

I'm sure I've had B/BB from Lathams before, anyway the quote they've just sent me was for BB/BB. Prices are:

9mm - 21.75
12mm - 25.70
15mm - 29.80
18mm - 35.40
