Managed to get in the shop today and finish that big Beech bowl off :D
Surprisingly it hadn't moved any so i just carried on where i left off finishing the inside.
I had me orders to leave it thickish and heavyish,so it is a bout 5/8" thick
Finished size is 24"dia X 3" deep, and used Food safe as my finish.
Got to say that the outboard attachment and the lathe coped easily with this size of blank. It took a bit of getting used to but by the end i was feeling more confident with the set up so no doubt there will be some more been turned soon :D

There is a 2p coin in the middle just to give some scale.

Comments welcome :D

Ok, where's Carol going to put that one :?: I can see the reaction from here.

Your girls could have a really great game of frisbee with that Paul. Can't say I have ever tried anything that big but certainly looks good from ehre. Probably call it a platter though.

Thank you for the comments :D
As you can see i have changed it from a bowl to a platter.
I am never sure what to call these pieces,as i thought a platter was a flatter shape :?

How did you put the beads on the rim?
Dave i just used the very tip of the bowl gouge i was using.
Just pushed the tip in to the required depth, well what looked right  at equalish spaces, than just rolled the gouge over till i got a nice curve either side, taking very light cuts.
HTH. :D
