I have recently acquired a Norris (Robert Sorby) blade for an A5 smoothing plane which seems to have been ground to some odd bevels - 15degree primary with a 30 degree secondary?
What should the correct bevel(s) be?

Rod :?

If it were me, I would keep honing at 30degrees until it takes too long to create a new edge, then grind the primary bevel at whatever you like.
Someone I used to work with put a 15 degree or so grind on all of his chisels so that honing was always nice and quick

Thanks Matt, have now re-ground the secondary to 30degrees - do not want to grind away too much metal.

The blade was worse than I thought when I measured the angles more accurately - 13degrees and 38degrees - defeats the benefits of thicker blade thicknesses!
