Hi all ,
I am sure its bean asked before, but I can`t find it.
Is there a formula for finding the bevel angle when cutting
a bowl or basket.
thanks in advance Geoff3

Hi,
According to Carole Rothman's book - Wooden Bowls from the Scroll Saw - the angle is =
x+y = tan a or x+y = tangent of the angle of the table drop
where x = ring thickness and y = wood thickness.

I reckon the book is excellent, well worth a read or better still to buy.
Hope it helps,
Bob H.

Hi Bob.H
Many thanks from wet and soggy Yorkshire.
That formula sounds very simple, even I can understand it,
maybe the next bowl I attempt will have less overhanging wood to
sand away.
Cheers .......Geoff3

A pleasure Geoff, try the book, my local library had it, I liked it and bought it (from Amazon just under $24US which included postage.)
Regards,
Bob H.
p.s. I think I might have mentioned I've good memories of Bishop Burton - wartime visitor, for about a year, from London, aged about 7. Fell through the ice on the pond!
