Hi there
I am after some advice, I have an opportunity to buy some hegner scroll saws from a local school. I just wondered which would be the best to keep for personal use? The best one seems to be a multicut 2s which has a red quick clamp on top but reading up on the net the heavier polycut seems to be the best / heaviest duty model. Is the multicut 2s Adequate for most scrolling work or would i be safer keeping one of the heavier polycut machines, although these dont seem to have the quick clamp etc :?:
Thanks

Gill is the best person to answer this as she has a couple of Hegners (and some diamonds, and a Dewalt and more!) but until she pops in, I would say that Hegners are held up as the Rolls Royce of Saws in the UK, and any you get, so long as its been looked after properly, should work well as a saw. Up to personal preference as to extras - quick release clamps etc. These can also be fitted later if you want them though. Variable speed is really worthwhile having if at all possible. I would say give them a try, decide which is right for you. If you have not had much experience of scrolling then any Hegner is going to be good, and it is unlikely you will outgrow what it can do for you for a while.

HTH,

Steve

Any Hegner is good. I added the speed control to mine. At the time of purchase it was my most expensive tool. With good blades (I have Goldsnail and others) it will cut accurately and quietly without vibration. I bought the hold down arm as an extra, I hardly ever use or need it, unlike the schools Axminster models. I use the original blade clamps, QR only takes a few seconds less time. Buy whilst you have the chance, buy 2 and sell the other at a profit.

Hi
Many thanks for the quick response to my posting.
Good to know that the "extras" can be added later
I will probably stick with the multicut as I have had a look at the spec for the polycut 3 which is described as an industrial model, which is probably a bit of "overkill" for my requirements
Cheers :p
