Southern Yellow Pine is more difficult to get in this country it seems. My local timber yards don't stock it so it's special order. I costed it at double the price of joinery grade "redwood". That was why I ended up going the beech kitchen worktop route as that worked out the same price as SYP.

You're right about the pricing, Boz but, round my way (Bristol and Somerset), there are several yards and merchants I know of who stock southern yellow pine. I'd be very surprised if there really isn't anyone up near you...

OK Olly, I'll rephrase that as the four "local small independent timber yards" didn't stock SYP. I didn't try the big builders merchant's ones as the price had already scared me off by then
