Bench grinder wire wheel

Hi, can anyone recommend a decent 100mm wire brush for a bench grinder? One that actually has decent amount of bristles instead of looking like a chimney sweeps brush…
There is so much rubbish out there

Best advice here is always wear googles and face mask, these wheels shed bristles and therefore do not buy cheap but known brands.

I bought a new one for my grinder about 8 months ago ( can't remember what make it was though).....I got it from Screwfix and it's done a fair bit of work since then.....Possibly a Norton brand...?
Its lasting very well but it has shed a few bristles.......Come to think of it, it is 150mm dia, not 100mm...!!

100mm wire brushes for a bench grinder do seem a little hard to find.

Maybe Mr Ardvark would be kind enough to give more details of the MM one he recommends, as I was unable to find it on their website.

I wonder if it is possible to buy an adaptor that screws onto the shaft of the bench grinder with the same thread as a 100mm angle grinder. Then 100mm grinder wire brushes could be fitted (but again, 100mm is not a popular angle grinder size).

The brand that jumps out is Norton, been in the market for ever and has a wide range of products. If you purchase from an industrial outlet or supplier rather than a DIY outlet then you will get a known product but might pay a bit more, someone like Cromwell tools. Also make sure the wheel is suitable for the machine, look at speed and be extra careful when looking for wheels for a small type angle grinder.

They have in the past sold me the wheels with brass plated steel wire, but there seems to be only stainless wheels listed at the moment.

I go in, Say I want a 6 or 8inch grinder, say the make the staff then bring me the Clarks or MM brands.

This is not a common size.

If you follow the link you provide, it says "We stock 150mm & 200mm stainless steel wire brush wheels".

As above, the OP wants something rather unusual. Hence, before suggesting a supplier, you would do well to confirm they actually stock the specific 100mm diameter one he needs.

My apologies..it’s a 200m (8”) wheel I want x25mm width…the Machine Mart are only 20mm

Jaz are a decent brand who make wire wheels from 50 through 350mm dia (jazsurface.com)
Abrasives world have been a competent supplier when I've bought from them.
If I want a product that is more unusual and isn't typically stocked, my starting point is usually to identify the manufacturers part then ask their distributors if they can get it for me...

I've largely given up on steel wire brushes – in favour of coarse abrasive nylon filament ones.

Slightly more abrasive; wear longer; don't shed filaments. The Wolfcraft ones seem OK; not the cheap Chinese knock-offs from Amazon, Sourcing etc.

Still use brass [NOT 'brassed'] wire, though, for fine finishing . . .
