Im getting some belt slippage on my Lathe. Its a new belt (2+months old) but has had a lot of time to bed in. However its slipping when i start the belt, i tried slackening of the tension and this just makes it slip more, i cant tension it anymore as its at its maximum and again slips.

Firstly

Can i use a anti slip spray on it?

Secondly

Could this be a Motor issue?

How old is the lathe if it is a old well used lathe then there could be wear in the pulley's. Is it the correct size belt if slightly too large you may need the next size down. Also is there any build up of dust shavings stopping the adjuster from working correctly. Just a few things to look at others may have other idea's

Alie, I assume it's the CL4 you are having problems with, is the belt as originally supplied or a replacement from another source.

Check that it is actually the correct one.

Length and width(type) are the parameters to check. even if length is correct then a narrow belt will bottom out instead of wedging on the sides.

No its a CL1. Its a replacement belt from Record. Havent started the lathe for about 3 weeks and when i started it yesterday it was slipping a lot on spinup.

Who sort of head stock bears does the CL1 have? Are the type that need oiling and they are running tight, in need of some lube?
