My crappy belt sander (B&Q) has finally given up on me, and I need to pick up a new one.

I want something with a sanding frame and side fence (for doing end grain). Any recommendations (please not Festool - budget won't stretch).

Cheers

Karl,

I've been looking into this recently too. Axminster have the Skil 7650 at a very reasonable price. This has a sanding frame and clamps for inverting the sander on your bench - doesn't appear to be a side fence though. Skil do do a bigger version too (not on Axminster).

The Bosch looks good, but the sanding frame is an extra £105, taking the "package" to about £350.

Well, Joel, I hear you've come in to some money very recently... Why skimp along with the Skil when you could easily afford a Festool?!

(Congratulations, by the way. :))

I've got it in my watch list Pete. Let's see what it goes for.

Still need to buy the sanding frame to go with it though.

It refers to "sub frame", but i'm not sure whether that is the sanding frame or the inversion stand. ?????

I don't think that the kit normally comes with the sanding frame, but the inversion stand.

There aren't any pics to see exactly what you're getting - will give them a ring next week to check.

Cheers

I had a look on the main bosch site and i think it is the inversion stand which is called the sub frame which starts to make everything quite expensive.

I got the Bosch GBS75AE in 2005 from Axminster. It cost £208 and came with the frame, upside down thingy, dust bag and a fence that can be set parallel or at right angles to the direction of the belt, all in a steel case.
It's now £245 but from the pictures in the awful revamped website it's not really clear if the frame and stand are included. Email and ask...

It's a good bit of kit - I've just replaced the graphite pad that the belt slides on.

Mine came with the sanding frame too, although a few years back now. N'theless, looking at the Bosch site it looks like it is just the base for inverting now. That said, I've yet to use the frame (although perhaps I should given the occasional dig-in  )
