Been gobleting again.

I made this goblet this morning, its Ash, 9" tall and finished with sanding sealer and woodwax22.


I'm really enjoying my 'ash stash', I've always thought of it as quite a plain wood but since turning several pieces from it,I'm always pleasantly surprised at the figuring of it.

Very nice piece - proportions look good,foot is a nice size,the beads on the stem are a nice touch (in my favourite category of "highlight without overpowering" ),finish looks good - not much else to add,and nothing at all to dislike

Nice looking goblet JT.Looks to be nicely finished,nice foot,stem,and the beads are nice but the bowl looks too heavy to me.
I think it would look more in proportion if it was finished where the bead starts.
What are those logs in the background :?: They look useful

Nice piece of work and the grain of the ash really compliments the goblet.

Thanks everyone, I am pleased with this goblet, it came together just right, the ash looks really good and takes a finish really well(half the battle IMO) .

Thats my latest delivery of spalted sycamore, theres 5, 3 foot lengths with more to come. I must saw them through the pith and get them out of the sun.

I've made a wood drying bit on the side of me shed, it has an open door at the front , a pallet floor to allow air all around that can circulate under the shed which is up off the floor on bearers by around 9", and the whole thing faces north. All I've got to do now is fill it with lots of lovely wood!!

Now your starting to sound like my missus :lol: :lol:

I've got some space round the back of the shed where nothing grows, so I need to get one of those outdoor sockets on the back of the shed(for elec chainsaw) and move sawing operations round there, where I can leave the chainsaw shavings in a heap to rot down.

Don't worry about it. A couple of passes with the mower and the all disappear and help the soil :lol:
